On the behalf of a Tier One commercial vehicle parts supplier, Commercial Motor Vehicle Consulting (CMVC) constructed a commercial vehicle (CV) parts aftermarket sales leading indicator (PLI) designed to forecast inflection/turning points in (CV) parts aftermarket sales due to changes in fleets’ business environments as a result of cyclical changes in the business cycle – expansion, recession and recovery. PLI was not designed to measure changes in trend factors, such as CV population, that have a medium and/or long term influence on parts aftermarket sales, as PLI was designed to identify periods when cyclical factors overwhelm trend factors in determining parts aftermarket sales.
Overview:
CMVC collects financial statistics – revenues, operating income and net income – quarterly of publicly owned for-hire carriers. Publicly owned carriers are relatively large carriers, so they provide a good barometer of the financial health of the for-carrier trucking industry. The status of carriers’ balance sheets plays a large role in truck investment spending decisions.
Overview:
CMVC adds descriptive statistics to monthly Class 8 U.S. Canada, Mexico and exports from North America truck data - retail sales, deliveries, net orders, backlog, change in inventories and engine for executives to easily identify marketing trends and turning points in sales.
Overview:
Commercial Vehicle Sales Outlook (CV Sales Outlook) analyzes economic factors, vehicle demographics, political/regulations and industry factors that are influencing fleets’ equipment purchasing decisions in the short-term as well as in the long term. CMVC develops its own economic forecast to support its proprietary truck, bus and trailer sales forecasting models for North America – U.S. Canada, Mexico and exports from North America. Vehicle projections are by gross vehicle weight ratings, Class 2 through Class 8 and trailer projections by type of trailer, for example dry van, platform, tank, etc.).
Overview:
Fleet Business Conditions analyzes the fleet marketing environment – freight environments by vocations/applications (examples: linehaul general freight, tank truck, refrigerated, construction and mining), fleet operating costs, financial conditions and vehicle demographics that influence truck, trailer and bus sales volumes.
Overview:
Visibility of the Supply Chain is designed to improve general freight carriers' planning by anticipating changes in the freight environment instead of reacting to changes in the freight environment. Carriers are likely to make better business decisions by anticipating changes in freight volumes than quickly reacting to changes in the freight environment.
Overview:
Week in Review is a weekly newsletter designed for busy executives in the commercial vehicle industry with little time to keep up-to-date on the industry – fleets, government regulations, truck/bus/trailer OEMs, OE and aftermarket parts/component suppliers, new products and services and the fleet marketing environment.
